Team Canada came up a goal short in the final game of the 2008 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship and will have to settle for a silver medal. After falling behind 4-1 after two periods to the United States, the Canadians battled back to within a goal in the third but could not complete the comeback and suffered their second loss of the tournament to the Americans. Canada allowed only one goal against in the round robin but their defence and goaltending couldn't repeat in the qualifying round and allowed as many goals against as goals scored (6). Finland defeated Switzerland 4-1 for the bronze medal. Below are the final standings:
